There are two forms of attack power: Melee attack power, and Ranged attack power. These can be found on your character sheet in the Melee and Ranged sections, and each form only affects the related type of weapon damage.
By increasing the player's base weapon damage, attack power improves the player's auto-attacks. Many abilities also add some percentage of attack power to the damage they deal the attack power coefficient. Although characters of every class will have a listed amount of ranged attack power, the statistic is wholly meaningless to all except Hunters, Rogues and Warriors, as these are the only classes that can use ranged weapons other than wands wands do not benefit from attack power.
Hunters benefit greatly from ranged attack power, while rogues and warriors' benefit is marginal, affecting only a few abilities such as [ Heroic Throw ] , [ Shattering Throw ] and [ Deadly Throw ]. Likewise, both types of attack power can be considered irrelevant for priests, mages, warlocks, and is generally not acquired by these specs due to gear and talent choices. Attack power from gear, items and permanent enchantments contributes equally to melee and ranged AP.
Most buffs, talents and enchantment procs either increase melee and ranged attack power separately, or only increase one kind. With patch 4. However, pre The base DPS of your auto-attacks including ranged attacks made using Shoot or Auto-Shot is increased by 1 for every 14 attack power you have. Your DPS is then multiplied by weapon speed to give the real per-attack melee or ranged damage:.
There is an opposite stat. Meaning that a weapon with a speed of 1 increases damage by 1, and a weapon with a speed of 3 increases damage by 3. Your attack power increases your weapon damage. Then add the Damage Bonus. To calculate the modifier, take your attack power and divide it by Then multiply that number by 1.
Melee attack power like blessing of might is useless for ranged hunters you can raptor strike tho. Unless if it specifies melee or ranged, then regular attack power gives both ranged and melee AP. The only benefit hunters see from Strength is one point of melee attack power per point of Strength, which Agility also provides. Comment by Aerolite08 While I do hope that other people can enjoy this re-Vanilla thing, I did not enjoy the old system at all. Comment by Ryecoke A couple notes, take them or leave them: Defense gives 0.
Defense Rating from gear does not directly reduce crushing blows it is not calculated in the above formula , though it does help by adding to your avoidance. Comment by Sedlina Attack speed is multiplicative not additive in classic it turned into additive during TBC when haste rating was normalized. Comment by nRated Each point of Weapon Skill provides.
Chance to dodge your attack Chance to parry your attack Chance to block your attack. Comment by marth Druids also gain 2 armor per point of agility, but it is unfortunately not multiplied by the Dire Bear form multiplier as far as I know.
Comment by Spiffyriffic Fantastic collection of info. Just wanna mention that: "damage per hp point" reads as "damage per hitpoint point. Generally, in Classic I seem to remember there was a 'box' that laid out my character's defense against melee, ranged, and magic attacks. It's just that, aside from Hunters, Warriors and Rogues are the only ones who can use ranged weapons.
Comment by Syous I don't know about other classes, but I did some test and on Shaman you get 1 block value every 24 strength, not If I use Wizard Oil increases spell damage by up to 24 , how do I see the effects?
Swords and Daggers are near equal in dps in equal gear. Play whichever you like, but i recommend dagger because theres way less weapon competition. Ignore most thing rogues on your server tell you and join the rogue discord. I prefer daggers, with swords you miss out on backstab and ambush. But as noted above, you can do great with either. As well as it affects your dodge rating too btw it also has more stam, which is always nice to have in pve too.
Agi and strength both give 1 AP, and agi also gives crit and dodge for rogues.
